Infection Prevention and Control

At The Wall House Surgery, we are committed to providing a safe, clean and welcoming environment for our patients, visitors and staff. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a fundamental part of the care we provide and is embedded into our daily practice.

We follow national guidance and best practice to minimise the risk of healthcare-associated infections. Our clinical and non-clinical teams receive regular infection prevention training and work in accordance with robust policies and procedures to ensure high standards of cleanliness and safety are maintained throughout the practice.

Our IPC measures include:

• Regular cleaning and decontamination of all clinical and non-clinical areas.
• Strict hand hygiene practices for all staff, with hand sanitiser available throughout the practice.
• Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where clinically indicated.
• Safe management and disposal of clinical waste and sharps.
• Regular servicing, maintenance and decontamination of clinical equipment.
• Routine Infection Prevention and Control audits, environmental inspections and action plans.
• Ongoing staff training and competency assessments.
• Monitoring of significant events and learning to continually improve patient safety.
• Implementation of national guidance during outbreaks of infectious diseases or seasonal illnesses.

How you can help

Patients can help reduce the spread of infection by:

• Cleaning their hands using the hand sanitiser provided.
• Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow.
• Cancelling or rearranging routine appointments if experiencing symptoms of a highly infectious illness, where appropriate.
• Following any infection prevention signage or instructions from our staff.

Our commitment

The practice has a designated Infection Prevention and Control Lead who oversees our IPC programme, ensuring compliance with national guidance and continuous quality improvement. We regularly review our policies, undertake audits and monitor compliance to maintain a safe environment for everyone using our services.
